HOW TO DEAL WITH CRANKY KIDS

The last couple of weeks have been bad..plain simple bad...things not working and very less sleep, day after day...needless to say, i was irritated...and last sunday i was trying to call up a friend who was not picking up her phone...i called about four times throughout the day, but no response...that added fuel to the fire...and then when she called in the night, i told her the usual 'why do you keep your phone if you dont pick it up...' routine and that i was very angry...and all she said was, "shout...shouting will solve the problem for you". The same afternoon, i was talking to another friend and she told me that "if you are feeling so irritated, go to your room and jump 10 times on your bed". Nobody has offered me 'suggestions' like these for years now...I just shut up after both these statements....I felt stupid ...And I dont know why both these statements reminded me of my mom...very typical statements that make you more irritated and angry, but also make you realize that being irritated and angry is neither worth it and nor will it lead to any solution...and that only a calm mind will help you out of the situation...

What amused me was both lines these came from girls...and it got me thinking that may be girls have this programmed in them...the "how to deal with restless 'kids' " chapter ...kids who are sometimes just generally irritated..nothing in particular..who get angry towards none but all...I dont think my male friends would have told me anything like the statements above...infact, it would typically be "load mat le" or "ek picture dekh kar aaja" or "daru pee..mast neend aayegi.."... and very other 'practical' solutions...

More than anything, the whole thing makes me feel silly about myself ...and furthers my belief that women should always have the last call (and usually they have a better one) on dealing with cranky kids :)

*****
Current Mood: Silly :)
Current Song: 'Saathiya tune kya kiya' from the movie 'Love' (1991). Simple. Sweet. Soothing. and Still a favorite.

Needless to say that you have understood the most important fact of life. I had read somewhere that before creating the masterpiece of Creation called 'woman', God created a draft called 'man'. Keep the realization alive.....

well if you really arte looking at practicality of solutions....i need to give you my suggestions about this.... In the girls having suggested to you about shouting / jumping...there lies expression of emotion...it's called catharsis. You are letting go of your frustration through a physical act. It is definitely more practical than supression / repression which is not aknowledging your problems (load mat le) or picture dekh le ....worse still daroo peele....
So basically girls are giving you practical solutions and No they do not have a chapter saying how to deal with cranky kids....they have an encyclopaedia on how to deal with cranky men........ :)

Anon: Plz don't get me started on that one..

Chaddi: I dont think I agree with you on that. Agar apne bapu logon ne apne ko bada kiya hota to soch apan kaise hote!!

Mrinmayee: Hehe...tu danger hain re..mereko terese bach ke rahna padega...but mereko gussa jaldi nahi aata..aur aata hain to phir jaldi nahi jaata...

Mrinal: Well, it has not fizzled yet..lekin I have 'decided' to be cranky no more...

Gurumaiiya: Psychology 101, eh? And about the encylopedia that women supposedly have...it hasnt helped much over time, has it?? I guess its time for women like you to refer to the mother of all *pedias.. Wikipedia :)
